Happy New Year!!
The action group has been continuing to put pressure on Veolia and the Council over the Christmas period to stop the development of the waste transfer fuel processing facility on Long Leys Road. Over this period we have been in contact with Estelle Brachlianoff, Veolia Senior Executive Vice President UK & Ireland who in correspondence admitted it was “remiss not to meet with residents” and was interested to hear from us about possible alternative sites.
However, she made it clear of their intention to pursue the development. She stated that Veolia would take “immediate steps” to open lines of communication with our local councillors but as of yet (nearly 3 weeks later) they have heard nothing. Today, we responded to Estelle reminding her that the failure to engage with the community is not aligned to the image Veolia purports to convey as a “good neighbour”, and it is not reasonable nor practical that residents travel to London to visit one of their sites (as offered by Mr Hunt & Karl McCartney). We have again asked them for a date in which they will meet with us all.
We will continue to keep you updated with any developments. However, in the meantime please do continue to write to the council, Karl McCartney and others listed in the newletter, and feel free to post any comments or questions on this page.
Thanks again for your continued support!!
